Okay, so this is a question that is raised at every event I run barefoot.
PersonalIy I actually do not know. So far the furthest I have run barefoot was 32km training run, which was 2 weeks ago, and next week I plan to run the 42km marathon barefoot. My first adult marathon. Ever. (oops will not be counting what I ran as a teenager in the 1980’s – far to much water under the bridge since then).
According to my running app, I have run over 1300km since I started tracking in July 2013. So most definitely I have run well over 1000 km’s barefoot in the last year.
Generally I have been comfortable up to 15km barefoot, and then I can feel the pads of my feet getting a little sensitive on rough roads. However I have now managed a few half marathons barefoot, and my feet have been fine.
When I ran 29km it was not so simple. That is only 8km longer than the half marathons I have already run barefoot in recent months. But as far as my bare feet were concerned, that extra distance was another milestone altogether.
